MRBAILEY® is no stranger to a deep sea-themed silhouette. The London-based designer's foray into the adidas Originals ocean began in 2020 with the creation of the Ammonite Superstar – an extinct, marine mollusc-inspired take on the brand's famed shell-toe shoe.
Another highly-exclusive collaboration washed ashore in 2022. The OZLUCENT was heavily influenced by the aurelia aurita, aka the moon jellyfish – a creature known for its distinctive biological clock. And in February 2023, he turned his attention to this liquid-like invertebrate once more and created the OZMORPHIS.
This stealthy, blacked-out pair goes hand in hand with the underwater topic of the previous two futuristic footwear obscurities. MRBAILEY® explored the relationship between humans and nature, manipulating his findings into an almost alien-like design inspired by adidas Originals' OZWORLD sneaker series.
MRBAILEY® took a biomimetic approach to the OZMORPHIS's design, looking at the moon jellyfish's younger ephyra period and turning it into something fresh and intriguing.
The otherworldly pair takes on a cocoon-like form. A supportive TPU shroud starts at the sole and rises to cover an insanely comfortable adiPRENE midsole, then surrounds a snug, neoprene sox-bootie upper. It's as though the moon jellyfish is absorbing the collaborative release – a spectacle that even the most serious marine biologist would appreciate. Circular grips at the toe mimic the lappets the aquatic creature uses to move around, completing the pair with one last underwater reference.
The OZMORPHIS is a unique and futuristic sneaker that showcases MRBAILEY®'s ingenuity and fascination with the deep sea in both a visually striking and comfortable manner. The CONCEPTKICKS® head honcho continues to push the boundaries of footwear design, and we can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
