Puma have once again opened the vaults on their impressive archive. This time they’ve revived two popular 80’s silhouettes, the Bluebird and the Madrid.
This Archive Collection leans more towards the Bluebird whilst the Madrid takes on the wildcard role. It has already caused a stir amongst collectors due to its vibrant purple palette. The terrace-inspired pack is themed around local cultural icons from the chosen capital cities and we’ll be covering each shoe below.
The Bluebird ‘Amsterdam’ comes in a vibrant shade of orange, a colour connected to the Dutch Royal Family that has come to represent national pride. We’d take bets that the blue featuring on the Formstripe and laces, signifies the famous canals and waterways that run through the Dutch capital.
The Bluebird 'St. Petersburg’ comes dressed in a colourway directly inspired by the city's coat of arms, with its red heraldic shield, two silver anchors and azure ribbons. The 'St. Petersburg’ Bluebird is crafted with premium suede and leather, a timeless combination that never fails and features throughout the pack.
The Bluebird ‘NYC’ is a size? exclusive and really takes things up a notch. Not only does this pair come individually numbered with a rumoured run of 500, but it’s also our favourite of the four.
The shoe is based on a one of a kind shoe made in the 1970’s for legendary New York Jets quarterback and Hall of Famer Joe Namath that was discovered on a recent hunt through Puma’s back-catalogue. The ‘NYC’ edition dons the Jet’s iconic team colours and sits upon slightly yellowed midsole giving the appearance of a shoe unearthed after decades of storage.
Finally we have the Madrid. The first Madrid’s release documented by PUMA dates all the way back to 1983, taking its original colour inspiration from the Madrid Coat of Arms. The ‘London’ edition rocks a rich purple and orange features as a nod to the colours associated with the Jubilee Line that runs through the city.
Which is odd as we always thought it was Silver/Grey, but we’ll never complain about a loose theme to justify sliding a purple suede banger into the pack. We’ve received a mad amount of messages from overseas collectors about this pair.
Shouts to our Puma family for sending through the pairs to shoot, we’ll be back with more Big Cat content in future but for now enjoy fantastic imagery we’ve created with our man @varker.
